I Am Game For Bollywood Masala Movies: Sonam Kapoor

MUMBAI: Sonam Kapoor She may have so far done non-glam roles in films that bordered on arthouse cinema, but Sonam Kapoor says she is all game for hardcore Bollywood commercial films. However, there is one condition she has.

Sonam Kapoor is often compared to Deepika Padukone because the two beauties began their Bollywood innings on the same Friday when their respective films Saawariya and Om Shanti Om released. Since then, Deepika has made headway into Bollywood commercial cinema, while Sonam has kept herself to arty films.

In an industry where actors run the risk of getting stereotyped unless they keep doing different roles, Sonam has got an image of a girl who’s interested only in arthouse cinema where she gets to play serious roles. But this, Sonam says, is a misconception.

“It’s a misconception that after films like ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Delhi-6′, I’m only looking at films with serious overtones. All I look for is meat in my role,” Sonam is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Last seen in Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6 , the slim and tall beauty added that she’s all game for doing movies “that are set in commercial parlance”, but she can’t be just arm candy for a hero.

“See, I have never looked down upon hardcore commercial cinema. It’s just that I never wish to be an arm candy who does four songs, a couple of scenes and then vanishes away from screen. Those are not at all the kind of roles that excite me,” she revealed.

Sonam added that even commercial films sometimes have good parts for actresses and she would like to do those kinds of roles.

“Who says Bollywood masala movies do not have good roles for heroines? Look at what Lara Dutta did in No Entry . Now that’s a kind of role that I certainly don’t mind doing,” she gushed.

Another one of Sonam’s favourite is Priyanka Chopra’s role in the gay comedy Dostana .

Sonam is presently slated to act in dad Anil Kapoor’s production Ayesha .

Yash Raj Films denies signing Salman Khan

Says reports are ‘completely baseless’

Bollywood's prestigious banner Yash Raj Films has denied reports that it has signed Salman Khan for a movie, saying they are "completely baseless".

Shahid goes shirtless in ‘Kaminey’

He went through advanced training for 8 months to build body

Every time an A-list actor builds his body much noise is made about how he got his six and eight packs.

We did not hear much about it, so we were rather surprised to see Shahid Kapur sporting a shirtless look and a chiseled body on a poster of his latest film “Kaminey”.

Shahid is playing a double role in the film, and the body is for the character of Charlie, who needs to look tough, mean and strong.

Apparently, Shahid went through advanced training for almost eight months to get this physique. He trained for two hours a day, five days a week.
According to his trainer Abbas Ali, the focus was on form, speed and power. “For a running shot in ‘Kaminey’ where Shahid had to run shirtless, my aim was to make him look like a sprinter, not an actor," he said.

Shahid is a strict vegetarian, so the diet required to build the physique was a challenge.

“We followed a diet of high carbs, moderate proteins and moderate good fats. We removed maida [flour] from his diet and gave him muesli, oats and protein shakes. He was not allowed any sugar and oil. He had to eat at the right time and in right combinations," said Abbas.

David Dhawan to direct 'Chashme Buddoor' remake?

Having tickled the funny bone of the audience with his comedies, Bollywood director David Dhawan is mulling an offer to direct the remake to 1981 cult hit "Chashme Buddoor".

"I have been approached by Studio 18, who have the rights to the movie. Though nothing has been finalised yet, we are working on it," Dhawan told IANS in an interview.

"Even if I agree to do this project, the movie will have a contemporary feel to it. I have to keep today's audience in mind. I am still thinking about this offer," he added.

One of the best remembered comedies of Hindi cinema, "Chashme Buddoor" was originally directed by multiple-award winning writer-director Sai Paranjpye.

Starring Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Saeed Jaffrey, Rakesh Bedi and Ravi Baswani, the 145-minute comedy etched itself in people's minds with its witty dialogues and characters.

Asked about his character preferences for the remake, Dhawan laughed off the matter in his trademark style.

The director also revealed that he has been approached to make a remake of veteran filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherji's "Chupke Chupke", which is also "under talks though nothing has been finalised yet".

What was Shahid addicted to as a child?

Mumbai, The one thing that Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor couldn’t resist as a child was playing video games - he was so addicted that he used to spend all his pocket money on them.

“As a kid growing up in Delhi, Shahid used to spend the maximum time inside video game parlours, playing video games incessantly. All his pocket money was spent on playing video games. He used to play till he would run out of money. There were times when he would sit for hours glued to the game,” said a source.

The 28-year-old, who owns PSP and X Box, feels if he starts playing again, he won’t be able to concentrate on his work.

“If I start gaming again I will not be able to read scripts and concentrate on my work. It’s best if I stay away from this old addiction of mine,” said Shahid who will be seen in a completely different avatar in his forthcoming release “Kaminey”.
